Congratulations to Nicky and Fuzzy Gates! Each boat that entered the tournament brought fish to the scales, but Nicky and Fuzzy had the best bag of all! Their 4.82 lb largemouth helped them win the tournament by nearly 2 1/2 pounds. Congratulations also goes to the newcomers of the club Ron Snyder and Mike Palmer. They brought 5 bass in that totaled 8.96 lbs. Jerry and Shawn Gates continue to show consistency by placing third at 8.09 lbs.
It was a very successful tournament with the wind blowing and the fish biting. It sounds like there were a ton of small fish caught, but each boat was able to bring at least one keeper to the weigh-in. I plan to post pictures and update the AOY standings in the next couple of days.
------------------------------
Tournament Stats
17 boats (average of 15 boats per tourney through the first four)
34 fishermen
56 fish weighed
92.1 pounds of bass
9 out of 17 boats brought at least 4 fish to the weigh-in
4 new club members (Total of 42)

Thanks everybody for participating again, and I look forward to seeing everybody at Peckerwood in May.

CHANGE OF PLANS

Due to information I have received about a big tournament at Devil's Fork, we are going to change where we will put in for the Greers Ferry tournament this Saturday. We will now put in at the same place we did last year. It is the old Hwy 25 road that runs into the lake at Tumbling Shoals. We will begin fishing at 6:30, so please be there by 6:00. Also, please pass this information on to as many members as you can, so everybody will know. I am sorry for having to change, but we felt like it would be better to get away from that traffic, so maybe the fishing won't be so crowded and everybody will have a place to park!

Please call me if you have any questions (512-9400).

Thanks a lot!

Greers Ferry Tourney

It is about time to go fishing again! The weather forecast looks great. It should be around 80 degrees and breezy. We are going to put in at Devil's Fork (Steep Landing). We will begin fishing at 6:30 a.m., so please try to be there by 6:00. It has been decided to start at 6:30 because we could very likely be fishing 8 hours again and this would put us home a little earlier. Plus, there should be plenty of light for safe boating.

The AOY standings are getting a little tighter. So far Michael Brand and Shane Coe are still leading and Jerry and Shawn Gates are sitting in second place. I will update the standings on the website after the tournament at Greers.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Congratulations to Marvin Ross and Bobby Teal! They were able to win the tournament with their 4 nice bass. There were two boats that brought 5 fish to the weigh-in, but Marvin and Bobby's fish weighed just enough to win....and I mean just enough. They won by a whopping .04 pounds. Jerry and Shawn Gates were able to get in the money again as they were barely beaten and finished 2nd. Jerry Lane and Bill Wooten also brought in a nice bag of fish to take 3rd. The tournament went very well. We had a nice crowd again as we went to the water with 13 boats and 24 people. From what I have heard, there were quite a few fish caught, but the 15 inch limit made it difficult to keep many. I will try to have some pictures posted later tonight or tomorrow.

Tournament Stats

Congrats to Bryan Smith and Clay Malone, not for catching bass, but for finally getting the boat out of the water after the complications!

Thanks to everybody for fishing and I look forward to seeing you at Greers Ferry April 25th.

Norfork Notes

Well, we are getting closer to getting back on the water. The weather looks like it should cooperate and it sounds like we will have a pretty good crowd Saturday morning. I have been informed about a few things that you might need to know before this tournament.

When you go into the area to get to the Jordan landing, be sure to put $3 in the box. It is likely that you could receive a ticket if you do not pay up. The ticket would be much more expensive than the $3 fee to launch.

The length requirement for Largemouth bass at Norfork is 15 inches. Kentucky bass and smallmouth are both required to be 12 inches in length.

Be prepared to fish 6 or 8 hours. The point of us voting was to be able to fish longer at larger bodies of water. So far we have fished 6 hours during each tournament. The votes have been closer than I had expected. I would imagine that we might be on the water for 8 hours this week, so you might want to bring a cooler with a sandwich and drinks. This was just a warning....I am not trying to tell anyone how to vote....haha!

If you have any other info you would like to share for the website, please give me a call!

UPDATE

Here we go again!!! We are only a week away from the Norfork tournament. We will launch from Jordan's landing and begin fishing bright and early at 7 a.m. I plan to update the website about the middle of next week with any information I get on when people are leaving and where they are meeting.

I have talked to many people about many things since the last tournament. Our first two tournaments went really well, but because they were back-to-back weekends, we didn't have much time to reflect on the first tournament. We have had a little time to think about how to make our tournaments as efficient as possible. There are a few things that I would like to update:

1--When a competing boat decides to leave early, it would help if they would call my cell phone when they are leaving just to let me know they are gone. This will keep us from expecting someone coming in late, plus it will let me know that we shouldn't be back on the water looking for someone in trouble.
2--Weigh-in time is determined at each tournament, BUT from now on each boat will be asked to check in with me when they get to the ramp. This will eliminate anybody from sneaking in to the weigh-in a few minutes late with no penalty.
3--We are going to put a lot more emphasis on measuring borderline fish. We want to ensure that any fish that is weighed meets the length requirements. Any fish that seems close will be measured at weigh-in.
4--One rule that has been re-worded is the rule that states you can't leave the boat for anything except bathroom or weather. The rule now is worded "Fishing is only permitted from the boat." I do not want to punish someone for going to their truck because they forgot their cellphone or something like that. They are NOT allowed to fish while out of the boat though.

I don't intend to be a jerk with the rules, but I want everyone to know that the rules in place will be enforced. We want it to be fair and FUN! Everyone will be treated equally. If you have a concern about a rule or just want to make a comment, please feel free to call.

I am having a blast with the entire group and hope everyone else is too. It seems like we have a club full of good fisherman that are excited about making the club as good as possible. Let's keep it going at Norfork.

Our website seems to be pretty popular. We have a counter on it that shows we have had nearly 600 hits in about a month. That is amazing to me. We have had people from many different places access our website. Here are just a few:

Newport
Cabot
Marked Tree
Little Rock (and North Little Rock)
Searcy
Jonesboro
West Helena
Batesville (yuck!....sorry I couldn't help that...haha!)
Cash
Conway
Lake City
Trumann
Clinton
Fayetteville
Hot Springs

Those are just the places in Arkansas. We have had hits from Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, California, Kansas and New Jersey (I figure that is Iaconelli).

If you have been watching our website, but haven't fished with us before, please feel free to call me (870) 512-9400. I would love to talk to you about our club. There is a great group of guys that would love to have you join us. Whether you are from Cash, Trumann, Searcy or even Batesville, we would love to have you.

Sorry I made it so long....had a lot to say. Look forward to seeing everybody soon!
Billy
