Tournament Change

After talking with the AGFC headquarters this afternoon they informed me that Hurricane will be closed throughout the weekend.  With that said; we will be going to the backup location which is Arkansas River at Little Rock.  We will use the Verizon launch under the Interstate bridge.  Coming into Little Rock you will take exit 141 B, and head South on Cypress Street and it will lead you directly there. There has been a small craft advisory on the river...it was lifted last week as the flow was shut down from 79,000 to 36,000 so we should be fine as far as that aspect of it goes.  We will blast off at 6:00 AM and fish until 2:00 PM.  The length limit for Largemouth is 14'', Kentucky are 12''.  If anyone has any questions feel free to give me a call.

Thanks

Arkansas Game & Fish Hotline - 800-440-1477 (press 8 for closings)

Hurricane Refuge Contact Number - 870-734-4582

Hurricane Scramble Update

To clear things up, if the refuge IS NOT 100% open we will be moving the tournament to the backup location which would be Arkansas River at Little Rock.  I will be keeping in touch with the folks at the refuge and as of right now the gate that leads to Big Hurricane and Willow Pond is closed.  I will have the decision by next Wednesday to give everyone a chance to pre-fish; unless, the river happens to jump up and there is no possible way for them to open then it will be announced earlier.  If any one has any questions or concerns please feel free to give me a call.
Thanks

With the river very high and rolling we had 43 fish cross the scales, for a total of 63.75 lbs.  Bob Hardin and Sawyer Floyd brought in the 5 biggest high water river bass for the win.  Second place and tightening up the AOY leader board went to Mike and Blake Anschultz, third was Ron Mounts and Darrell Fletcher fourth place was the team of Jason Wrath and Bryant Harvey and rounding out the top five was Mitch Brannon and Billy Robertson.  Mike Odom was able to find the best bite of the day bringing in a 3.18 pound White River green fish.  With two regular season events left the AOY looks like it is going to come down to the wire with about 12 points separating first and 3rd place.  Our next event (for now) will be the Hurricane Refuge Scramble, the back up is the Arkansas River at Little Rock.  I will keep you posted if there is a change, but as of now we will be going to Hurricane.  Congratulations to the top five and big bass winners, and thanks to everyone that came out to fight the high river stage.

Cade Cook with one of the 5 fish he brought to the scales, way to go Cade!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Typically the Lake Peckerwood tournament is one of the most anticipated tournaments of the year, and this tournament is a prime example as to why.  We had 22 boats fish today, 19 of those 22 boats brought in limits of fish and the other 3 were just a fish or two away from that 5 fish limit.  104 fish crossed the scale, with a total of 238.18 pounds.  The team that found the bigger than average fish and winning by over 4 pounds was the team of Ricky and Jason Gates anchored by a 5.92 pound Peckerwood mud turkey.  The remaining top 5 were separated by a little more than a pound with Second place going to Marvin Ross and Eugene Zuber, Third was Bob Hardin and Sawyer Floyd, Fourth being Michael and Chris Bruner and rounding out the top 5 was Nicky Gates and Jesse Cordell.  Great job guys!

Our next event will be on White River on July 25th, we will blast off from the Jacksonport launch.  Tournament times will be announced closer to the time of the tournament.  If the river looks like it will drop below 5 foot the tournament will be moved to the back up location being Lake Conway. With only 3 regular tournaments left in the year start looking at classic qualifying, and remember instead of 3 you have to fish 5 regular season tournaments to qualify!

Eric Jackson and Mike Lawson
5.18 lbs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

At our halfway point of the year we had quite the turnout with over 200 pounds of fish brought across the scales at a very water logged weigh in.  First Place with 15.91 lbs. went to the on fire team of Bill Wooten and Bill Elliot.  They have cashed in at the last 4 tournaments, with their worst finish being 2nd place!  Second place with 15.22 lbs. went to Andy and Greg Latting.  Third went to Ron Mounts and Darrell Fletcher, who also have not finished outside the top 3 in the past 4 showings.  We had a very rare situation for the 4th/5th place finish the two teams made up of Michael and Chris Bruner, and Blake and Mike Anshcultz tied with 14.27 lbs.  The rules state the points and/or winnings should be split between the two teams they decided to flip for the winnings and that went to Michael and Chris Bruner.  There was a mess of good 4 and 5 pound fish brought in, the biggest of the day was at 5.18 lbs. brought in by Eric Jackson and Mike Lawson.  Thanks to everyone for being patient yesterday during the downpour that had to make its appearance at the weigh in and congratulations to everyone.  The next tournament will be at Peckwood Lake on June 27th then we will have nearly a month break before fishing the White River on July 25th.  We will take off at 6:00 at Peckerwood, at the Red Barn Landing.  The owner has made it clear that the gate WILL NOT be opened until 5:00 that morning so don't expect to get in before then.  You will have to pay the full $7.50 to launch, but they are offering a $20 contingency that will go to the big bass winner.
