---------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations to Doug Cockrill and Blake Anschultz!!! The conditions were not great for fishing, but these two guys did enough to take the CLASSIC Championship! They were the only boat to bring in 3 keepers. Second place went to Bill Wooten and Jerry Lane. They brought in the largest fish of the CLASSIC at 4 1/2 pounds even. That one large fish netted them a second place finish along with the Big Bass award. Third place went to Chris Clark and Mark Watson. They had two fish that weighed over 4 pounds combined. 4th place went to Mike Anschultz and Chuck Branscum. Their two fish weighed just under 4 pounds. Fifth place went to Kenneth Haney. He brought in two fish that weighed just under 4 pounds as well.

If you weren't there, you can tell by the results that it was a very difficult day of fishing for everybody. We had a wonderful crowd (17 boats), and as usual everything went very smooth. Thank you to everyone for your participation all year. I would also like to thank all of the people that helped throughout the year. Whether that means helping weigh and measure fish, posting signs in your place of business, providing a flashlight during dark hours, checking livewells, or just being patient and understanding while I am trying to get people in order for takeoff, I really appreciate it. Having a great group of guys is what makes our bass club so much fun.

I also would like to thank everybody for being understanding when I have been asked questions throughout the year. Sometimes I even wonder if I know what I am doing, so I can certainly understand when others wonder why I have decided to do a tournament a certain way. Throughout the year, everybody has been very patient with me and understood that I was just trying to do what I thought was fair for everybody. I let everybody know after the Classic that I would love to hear suggestions on how to make the club better. I think we as a group are willing to do what is best for our club!

Again, I have enjoyed the year and I hope that you all have too!!! I am already looking forward to next year.

The big bass for the tournament was brought in by Marvin Thaxton and Bobby Teal. They brought in a solid three and a half pounder. Congrats to all of you guys!

Congratulations to Mike Warren and Chuck Coe! Their nice sack of 9.76 lbs was plenty to take the White River championship. Their first place finish allowed them to make a nice move in the AOY standings. Speaking of AOY standings, Nicky and Fuzzy Gates continue their late season push to try to take the lead. They finished second with 7.95 lbs of bass and have made the AOY race VERY tight. We will see later how tight it really is. Third place went to Aaron and Andy Simpson. They weighed over 7 1/2 lbs as well and finished in the money. The Big Bass was brought to the scales by Andy Lancaster and Brian Lancaster! Eleven year old Andy was able to hang the biggest bass of the day on a football head jig with a crawdad trailer....his dad watched....haha!

Tourney time again! (Plus another note)

It is time to fish again. We will launch from Jacksonport (Mary Woods ramp) at 6:00 Saturday morning. The river is low, but it won't be as low as they were predicting a few days ago. Currently the level is at 6.3 here at Newport, and it should remain at that level or even be a little higher (according to the forecast). We should have a good tourney. Please be at the ramp by 5:45. I figure we will have a good crowd. We will vote on Saturday to determine how long we will fish, so I would be prepared to fish until 2:00 or so.

Another piece of info:
I have been asked to inform the club of a benefit bass tournament that will be held at Greers Ferry on Saturday, August 21st. The tournament will benefit Doug Compton Ministries (www.dougcompton.com). Fishing will be from 6:00 until 12:00 from Devil's Fork. For details on the tournament call (870) 917-9198 and talk to Clint (or you can call me and I can answer some of the questions).

Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!

Cache Bayou / Seven Mile and updated AOY standings

OK guys....I finally got the website updated with pictures from Hurricane. We are about ready for another good turnout for a JCBC tournament. This Saturday we will meet at the Gregory store just like we did last year. We will take the same approach as we did last week at Hurricane. We will draw numbers and line vehicles up leaving from Gregory. When we get to our chosen location we will put in and start fishing. We will meet at Gregory at around 5:00 and leave there by 5:30. We will discuss the finish time while there. You can choose to fish Cache Bayou or Seven Mile.

Congratulations to Chuck Branscum and Mike Anschultz. While many boats brought limits to the scales, Chuck and Mike succeeded in bringing the largest sack of all. Their 13.80 lbs of bass narrowly beat Marvin Ross and Raymond Bradley's 13.77 lbs. Third place went to Brandon Cook and Nick Drake. In another very close battle, they were able to clip Blake Anschultz and Doug Cockrill by .02 lbs (11.66 to 11.64). The big bass was brought in by Chris Clark and Mark Watson. They had a very nice bass that went 4.80 lbs. Congratulations to all of the winners above!
I want to again thank everybody for being patient and allowing this to turn into such a good tournament. We have a great group of guys in our club and that showed today with everybody being willing to work with the organization of all the traffic. I was surprised at how many boats we had, but that is great! I had planned to post all of the pictures that were taken today, but apparently some of them were lost (had to change batteries). Luckily, I think we have pictures of all of the winners. So if you got your picture taken and it isn't on the site, I apologize. I plan to post pictures in the next day or two and hopefully will update the AOY standings soon too.

Thank you all for coming out again and I look forward to seeing you all on July 24th.

Updated AOY standings

After the Morgan Point tournament, I informed a couple of people incorrectly about one of our rules about place points. I came back home and looked it up and have updated the AOY standings. The rule in question is about third place. If there are only 19 people fishing in a tournament we only pay 2 places (monetarily). I thought that that meant that we didn't award place points for that either. The rules said otherwise. We reward place points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Big bass for each tournament regardless of how many boats (or people) there are. So here are the current AOY standings:

1---121.69---Kieffner/Keedy
2---94.30---Ross/Bradley
3---77.87---Gates/Nicky and Fuzzy
4---57.27---Rob/Ratt
5---46.05---Brand/Watson

Congratulations to Marvin Ross and Raymond Bradley. They survived the triple digit heat and brought 5 nice bass to the weigh-in. Their 10 pound sack was aided by a near 5 pound largemouth that put them over the top. Second place went to Brad Lewis and Dustin Roddy. They brought over 7 pounds in to help them secure second in front of Mike Warren and Chuck Coe. Mike and Chuck were able to land 6 pounds of fish. The fishing was very difficult due to the rising water from the Arkansas River and the terrible heat.

Congratulations again to Brad Kieffner and Billy Keedy. For the second tournament in a row they were able to bring in over 15 pounds to the weigh-in. This week at Peckerwood they put together a whopping 17.05 lbs that included the big bass of 4.21 lbs. In second were Nicky and Fuzzy Gates. They continued to fish well with another double digit sack (10.83 lbs) to secure second place. The third place team (Mike Warren and Chuck Coe) had a 10 pound sack as well. The turnout was a little low due to a conflicting tournament, but we still had a good tournament with 9 boats. Many fish were caught and everybody seemed to have a good time. I look forward to seeing all of you at the weigh-in on the beach in Jacksonport for the Portfest Buddy Bass tournament this coming Saturday.

AOY Standings

Below are the current Angler of the Year standings (top 10). Please keep in mind that we drop the two lowest tournament totals for each boat at the end of the year. Also remember that the takeoff position for the classic will be determined by the AOY standings at that time.

AOY Standings:

1---79.64---Brad Kieffner and Billy Keedy
2---55.28---Nicky Gates and Fuzzy Gates
3---52.80---Marvin Ross and Raymond Bradley
4---46.90---Rob Hill and Dewight Jackson (Ratt)
5---46.05---Michael Brand and Nate Watson
6---33.61---Blake Anshultz and Doug Cockrill
7---31.02---Mark Clairday and Jason Denney
8---24.34---Brad Lewis and Dustin Roddy
9---21.37---John Reed and Brad Robertson
10--19.57---Mike Warren and Chuck Coe

These totals include the total weight of fish that have been caught by each boat plus the total amount of place points they have received for each tournament. The total weight of fish weighed is very important. There are only three boats in our club that have more place points than total pounds. For each tournament that has 20 fishermen or more the following points are awarded:

1st place---20 points
2nd place---10 points
3rd place---5 points
Big Bass---5 points

Our next tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 29 at Peckerwood. We will use the Red Barn landing and probably start fishing at 6:00 am.

Congratulations to Brad Kieffner and myself (Billy Keedy) for hauling in over 15 lbs of Lake Conway bass to become the Lake Conway tournament champions. We were only able to catch 7 keepers, but the 5 best were quality fish. Second place belonged to Doug Cockrill by himself. He secured second with a nice sack of bass at 13.35 which was aided by a monster 5.37 lb largemouth. In third was Michael Brand and Nate Watson. They were looking for that final keeper to put them in the hunt, but the four nice fish that they brought to the scales were big enough to put them in the money.
We had a long day of fishing in the cool wind, but numerous boats caught some quality fish. We had 9 of our 16 boats catch over 8 pounds and seven of those were over 9 lbs. The tournament seemed to go off without incident and we once again had a nice crowd.

Please be prepared to leave the ramp at 6:00. If you could get there by around 5:30 or 5:40 it would help. So far this year, things have worked really well. It sounds like we could have another good turnout. I look forward to seeing everybody early Saturday morning! Call with any questions (512-9400)

Congratulations to Marvin Ross and Raymond Bradley for weathering the storms and bringing in the heaviest sack of fish at Hill Creek. Their five bass weighed a pound more than the next best team and included the biggest fish of the day (3.80 lbs). Next was Brad Kieffner and Billy Keedy. We brought another double digit sack (10.74 lbs) to the weigh-in to take second place position. Newcomers Hunter Baughman and Brad Sherrill narrowly finished third with 8.78 lbs of fish. They narrowly clipped Hanna/Hawthorne (8.51 lbs) and Brand/Watson (8.17 lbs). There were many fish caught, but the quality fish didn't bite much. I guess we can blame it on the two storms that came through during the tournament. Thanks to everyone for being patient with the hour-plus delay prior to the start of the tournament. We tried to be safe and things seemed to work out fine.

I plan to post the AOY standings pretty soon, but just to let it be known....the current leaders are Rob and Ratt. It is very tight at the top, though!
Thanks to all of the new boats that showed! We appreciate you all coming and would love to have you back.

Greers Ferry UPDATE!

After speaking with numerous people about the possible weather coming tomorrow, I took it upon myself to contact a weather person in Jonesboro. They believe that there will be storms coming through after midnight through the morning hours. Once they get through, it should be fine. I gave them a scenario for what my plan might be and they thought that it was a good plan. SO, HERE IT IS:

We are going to fish tomorrow morning from Hill Creek at 6:00. (Please be there by 5:45 or so) If we get there and it is still storming, or if there is a line of storms coming shortly, we will postpone it an hour or two (maybe all go eat breakfast or something) and then come back and fish. Be prepared to be there for 8 hours or more because if we have to postpone we may fish a little later than usual. If we get there and it storms from 6:00 through 8:30 and it looks like it is going to continue, then we can load up and come home and everybody can hate me....sorry! Again, I have been told that once it gets here and gets gone....it should be gone.

We will all fish at our own risk, but I want to try to be as safe as possible as a club. If it rains, let it rain....we won't melt. If there is lightning, we don't need to be on the water. So, be prepared to launch at 6:00 and bring your rain gear!

Good luck and I hope to see you all there!

Greers Ferry Tournament (Location and Time Change)

Due to information that I received earlier today, we are changing from Devil's Fork to Hill Creek this Saturday. We are going to try to launch at 6:00, so try to be there by 5:30 or so. There is supposed to be a large tournament going out of Devil's Fork Saturday, so I would like us to take off right at safe light if possible. Please try to spread the word of this change. We have changed the ramp and the time. It is very difficult to contact everybody when you have close to 60 members.

I will also be keeping my eye on the weather. It looks like we could have some storms coming through Friday night that could linger into Saturday. I still want to plan to fish the tournament, but we will need to proceed with caution if there is a major storm coming. Please continue to monitor this website over the next 24-48 hours. If you have any questions, please call 512-9400.

Thanks
BK

Notes

There are a few things I want to let everybody know:

#1 I want to sincerely apologize to Dewight Jackson (not Dewayne Johnson) for butchering his name on the results page for the Norfork tournament. Going forward I will try to get every name right, but I will probably just call him Ratt to keep it simple.....haha!

#2 If I ever put any kind of information on this website that is incorrect, please contact me. I can edit the post to make it correct. I am human and with a club that has 50 members it is hard to keep names and other information straight sometimes.

#3 The Greers Ferry tournament on April 24th will launch from Devils Fork unless something changes later. I think that Devils Fork is a more central place and will allow people a better opportunity to get to more spots on the lake. The launch time has not been determined yet, but I would like to go at 6:30. I have checked a different website and didn't see another tournament going off at Devils Fork on the 24th, but if you are aware of one let me know and we can move it to Hill Creek.

Let the Pre-fishing begin!

Congratulations to Rob Hill and Ratt (Dewight Jackson)!!! They were dominant with their performance at Norfork with a sack nearly weighing 15 lbs. The spotlight of their sack was a 4.12 lb largemouth that brought them the Big Bass honors. Their closest contenders were John Reed and Brad Robertson. John and Brad brought a nice 11.37 lb sack to the weigh-in on a day when many boats didn't weigh a fish. Third place went to Brad Kieffner and Billy Keedy (me). We were able to break the double digit barrier with 10.36 lbs of bass.
The rain that came through the night prior to the tournament caused the bite to be a little difficult for most. There were three limits brought in, but 10 of the 16 boats weighed 2 fish or less.

I hope to have the AOY standings updated on the website before the next tournament at Greers. Thanks to everyone again today. The tourney went very well and the participation remains consistent (we are averaging 17 boats per tournament so far).

Norfork Tourney (Jordan)

Well, it looks like the weather is warming up and hopefully the fish will bite this Saturday on Norfork. We will launch from the Jordan landing at 7:00. Please try to be there by 6:30. Also, be prepared to fish 8 hours again.

I am looking forward to having another good crowd. I have heard of numerous people that have pre-fished up there and I have had a couple call saying they are going to head that way on Saturday. I look forward to seeing everyone there.
